Our High Performance Building
We started this project because of a simple need: We outgrew our space and needed a new home. But this change of space was an important time and I came back to our company values to be deliberate and very aware of where we would want to be and what that would look like.
A team of one designer, professional architects, a green minded general contractor, and a project manager, sat down with me and plotted out a goal.
Goal
We would go for LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and create space for community events and the educational seminars we provide to our family of Health Professionals. LEED was the best third party verified, nationally recongnized green building rating system, that encourages the adoption of sustainable building practices.
Here are some of the elements achieved in the building:
Design
- Conserve materials in construction
- Maximize daylight and views
- Utilize sustainable materials
Construction
- Low emitting carpet and with recycled content
- Low V.O.C. paints, adhesives, and sealants
- Indoor air quality management plan
Efficiency
- 17% reduction in heating and cooling load
- 32% lighting power reduction
- 40% water use reduction
Reuse
- Comprehensive compost and recycling plan
- 70% + recycling of construction materials
- 50% + all furnishings reclaimed
LEED
